Adrian was elected Pope in January 1522 while serving as Cardinal in Spain, but preparations and circumstances delayed his arrival in Rome until August. In the present letter dated Zaragoza, 19 May 1522, he cites concern about plague and the lack of an available ship out of Barcelona. Sander 30.
